Mmm fresh Pi

So today saw the addition of the Raspberry Pi Model B+ to the official suppliers stock list. This latest revision doesn’t replace the B but offers several advantages over the original (and the price should remain the same!)

Before you get your hopes up too much, this model is powered by the same BCM2835 SoC as its younger brother so you’ll be disappointed if you’re looking for a power pi, likewise you’ll get the same 512MB slice of ram so the boards are fundamentally the same. So why bother you might ask? Well, let’s get right to that….

  • A whopping 40 GPIOs
  • 4 on board USB ports
  • Push to Insert/Eject MicroSD
  • 0.5-1.0Watt more power efficient
  • Better audio thanks to a new low noise power supply
  • Component video now combined with headphone jack
  • Rounded edges?
More of the stuff you need, none of the stuff you don't

The first 28 GPIOs are identical to that of the model B so there shouldn’t be too much confusion if you know those GPIO locations off the top of your head!

The foundation indicated that this isn’t a replacement for the model B and that they plan to keep manufacturing it alongside the B+ for the time being.
